Macrame by Maja

  • Tell me a bit about yourself

My name is Maria Nyberg, live in Sweden Stockholm. I work by my self but do have some work with my sister. We have classes together in macrame. I am 39, have two daughters. Live with my boyfriend that also have two children.
On Etsy my shop is called falskblondin, but I´m going to change that to MacrameByMaja I also have my Blog called MajasSmycken – Smycken för dig.

  • Please describe your creative process

I work mostly in macrame and do that at home, have a studio but are renting that out for some time now. When I sit down to create I start with colors, usually I use gemstones in my macrame work and from them I chose the color of the cord I´m using. I use waxed linen cord in my macrame mostly because I like the look that it make in my macreme work. My inspirations comes mostly from nature and colors.

  • What inspires you?

I also get inspirations from others work but never copy anything.

  • How did you get into your craft?

My sister also makes macrame and it was she who taught me the art. I have been doing macrame for two years now and I don´t think I will ever get tired of it. I also make beaded work some times, like peytoe.

When I don’t create my jewelry I´m working with mentally challenged people. Have been doing that for 20years now and I really enjoy my work. Then I have my children to take care of.

  • Apart from creating things, what do you do?

When I can I also have classes in macrame, some times with my sister. It´s fun and rewording to give classes in macrame. More and more find it fun to do.

  • How do you promote your work?

When it comes to promoting my work I have my Etsy Store, a forum here in sweden called pärlplatsen and I sell at a shop in Uppsala in Sweden. I find it hard to get the work out there is so many that sell and great jewelry. You really have to have your own stile and I think I have that with my macrame work.

About Emma
I think that the creativity is a gift that has to have its own freedom, the designs of my jewelry reflect my feelings and emotions, I always try to be dedicated in which I do up to being capable of saying that it is finished and therefore that it is possible to put in exhibition. I'm inspired with the colors of the nature mixed with the feelings and emotions that evoke me.
