I was recently struck by how adorable Danielle of Lilydustbin’s bottlecap creations are. She obviously puts a lot of thought into each one and works diligently to get the details of each creation just right. Her style ranges from cute, such as her Tofu Kitty magnet, to beautiful sophistication, such as her Rhinestone necklace. In addition, many of her pieces incorporate pieces of recycled keyboards, putting one of her feet in the geekcraft category as well. Recently, I interviewed Danielle:
What types of items do you sell?
Mostly bottlecap collages which are finished as pendants, brooches or fridge magnets. I sell pins and buttons too and every so often I’ll felt a purse or create a special collage greeting card, but right now I’m all about the bottlecaps.
How did you get into your craft?
I’ve always been making things since I was a little kid. My granny was a knitter and she passed on the skill to me which evolved into overall craftiness.
Where does your inspiration come from?
Pop culture, japanese toys, BoingBoing, feminism, music, art design books, magazines.
How do you promote your shop?
I’m a digital marketer by day, working for folks mainly in the music industry so I’m experimenting with some of the tricks of that trade but mostly I network online at places like flickr, we love etsy, myspace, etc etc… My next step is to go back to meatspace basics by attending craft fairs and markets.
