Talented jewelry designer: Jo Rebeka

My name is Jo Rebeka and I have my Etsy Shop. I was born and grew up in the midwest of the USA, but I have lived in New Mexico for over 30 years. My background is in jewelry-making, and I have been doing flame-worked glass for 15 years.

I first realized I wanted to be an artist as a young child (5 years old) when a classmate made fun of my unusual use of colored crayons. This ended with me shouting “You won’t laugh when I’m a famous artist”. From then on my fate was sealed.

I create my glass pieces in a 3500 degree torch flame, as the glass melts I shape it with tools to create the piece I have in mind. No molds are used, each piece is unique. This type of glass work has been done for nearly 5000 years, it is older than glass blowing.

My main inspiration is the endless variation of the natural world and the characteristics of the glass itself.

My glasswork is my fulltime career. I sell my work primarily through local shows and art galleries, and also though my website.
