Etsy Jewelry Designer: Kalikat

  • Tell me a bit about yourself

Hello, My name is Catherine Marche. I am French and was brought up internationally.
I live in London UK, married, mother of 2 VERY active young boys.
I have always been creative and in addition to painting, illustration and design, I am delighted with being able to work as a Goldsmith.

  • What is the name of your Shop?

“Kalikat” Jewellery to look stunningly beautiful

  • Please describe your creative process

Being quite versatile, I like experimenting with different techniques like soldering, hammering, forming, crocheting wire. One of my one-off crocheted bracelets in sterling silver with pearls has been included in the Book 1,000 Jewelry Inspirations by Sandra Salamony, and I have also been shortlisted for a British Jewellery Award with Holts Academy of Jewellery in London.
I love working with precious metals: sterling silver and 18k gold, and am absolutely thrilled by tech candy effect gemstones colors have on me.
You know the thrill, you see candies (or choc), YOU salivate and just want it
Gemstones have the same effect on me. LOL

  • Where do your ideas come from?

The world inspires me, more especially people, colors, moods and beauty.
I enjoy the world of fashion and bling and like designing jewels that will reflect the mood of the moment. You do not always want to look demure or delicate, sometimes, you like to make a statement or a showcase of you happiness, successes…
Which is what leads me to work on several collections in parralel, that way, I always find what I need. I am really happy to be able to propose the same service to other customers who, like everyone, need jewels. Knowing that with music, drawing and dancing, jewels are the most ancient treasure of humankind, found in early Stoneage diggings, I am proud I was drawn to it.

  • How did you get into your craft?

It chose me. I never had enough and was commissioning jewels all tech time, so I figured that the best way to really get what I wanted was to make it myself.
I trained at college and with several Goldsmiths and here I am today.

  • Apart from creating things, what do you do?

I play the saxophone, cook French and International food, travel, dance, wear wigs and of course, take care of my little family.

  • How do you promote your work?

Mainly in socal networks and by carrying my cards wherever I go (stylehive, stylefeeder, myspace, flickr…). Also I have a Blog.
I have joined a few association of craft people and take part in exhibitions whenever I can.
I also have a fantastic smile that works wonders in getting to meet new people :)
