Interview with Ranunculae - All Things Print (and Diesel)!
- Tell me a bit about yourself
My name is Maeg, I live in Western Massachusetts with my husband, stepdaughter, and cat.
- What is the name of your Shop?
My shop is Ranunculae, after my favorite flower. I also dig the “ae” spelling thing.

- Please describe your creative process
Whenever I can! I work a full time day job and have a family so I tuck creativity into my day wherever I can (like when I should be sleeping!). The front room of our house has exploded into a Paper Source/JoAnn Fabrics lovechild type mess; I work there. I mainly use Gocco, also linocuts. I love to combine printing and quilting as well.
- Where do your ideas come from?
A lot of inspiration comes from my friend Marykate. She gets credit for being the first to call my sewing machine “diesel.” That little comment blossomed into one idea, then another and another.
I get a lot of ideas randomly and jot them down. I also take time on a regular basis to sit quietly with my sketchbook and get down anything that comes to mind. Right now I have more ideas than I have time or materials, which I think is a good thing. They’re waiting for me!

- How did you get into your craft?
I liked to make things for as long as I can remember. I have some “training” here and there and always want to try to new things, new materials. I took about 5 years off from being very creative–it just happened. The whole 5 years I missed it all, but felt uninspired. A few months ago I experienced a very sad loss, and found myself channeling the energy I had into creating again. That’s the short version of how I got to be doing what I’m doing right now.
- Apart from creating things, what do you do?
I work as a retail sign artist, I hang out with my family and friends. I chase my cat around the yard and read a lot of books.
- How do you promote your work?
That is definitely a skill I am developing! My latest project is starting a blog. When it’s ready there will be a link to it in my Etsy shop, please take a peek!
