Take It Easy
The cult of slowness, a movement based on the principles of taking one’s time to create a well-made, well-loved, eco-friendly product, is gaining widespread exposure with an article published in today’s New York Times entitled “The Slow Life Picks Up Speed.” While the principles of going slow and doing something well have been loudly touted for years in the culinary, erotic, and athletic (i.e. tai chi) fields, these principles are only recently beginning to get widespread attention in design, craft, and creation. Opposed to the demand for speed in mass-produced, commercial endeavors, the movement focuses on taking all the time needed to do one’s craft, art, or design as well as possible.
